Overall Combined Record: 41-47-1 (even)
S-T-A-T-E of the Union: Norvell fired and an 8-1 week. What a shot of life. Turns out, I do in fact have my finger to the pulse of the SEC. How about that coach fired mid-season trend….
Week 10 Preview: Vegas getting a little too sharp for their own good here. See if ol Tickets can catch em with their pants around their ankles. Who’s Who of FSU coaching candidates this week with Fleck, Chesney, Stein, Baker, Weis, and Manny Diaz all finding themselves in the spotlight. First week all year I can truly pull for my Seminoles and feel good about it. Relieving.
Week 10 Premium Plays:
Florida State -6 at Boston College (3 units): This Noles team has been freed from it’s shackles. Free at last! Free at last! Here’s the bottom line, I think this FSU team has the athletes on the roster despite being ravaged by injuries. You finally give this team a little motivation instead of Mini Mike Norvell preaching about ‘response’ from his soap box and I think we get the best version of the Seminoles this week. Boston College just got thumped by Duke 47-2, they aren’t great on defense – especially against the run, and they can’t move the ball on offense. Florida State has the talent advantage and now has Florida State legends Ernie Sims and Rich Stockstill leading them out of the tunnel. This is about pride for the Seminoles looking for their first road victory in over three years. Best believe they are going to be running around with their hair on fire. Belt to ass in Chestnut Hill. Florida State begins repairing their image. Noles ground the Eagles, 34-13.
UCLA at Minnesota +4.5 (1 unit): I’ve been on the edge of my seat waiting for an opportunity to fade the back up QB for the Bruins and I think we finally have my chance. I’m expecting a low scoring rock fight with this one largely predicated on the Golden Gophers ability (allowing 126 yards per game on the ground) to stop the UCLA rushing attack (averaging just over 200 yards per game). 38.5 total on this one. Good news for PJ Fleck’s signal caller, Drake Lindsey, he’s no stranger to seeing a top defense with bouts against Indiana, Michigan, and Iowa under his belt. A bit of experience, west going east, low scoring affair and four plus the hook for the home team? We will be rowing our way to a hot start Saturday. Golden Gophers out maneuver the bruins, 20-17.
Bama at LSU over 52.5 (2 units): Crimson Tide head to Baton Rouge in what Tickets expects to be the game of the weekend. If I had to pick a side, I’m rolling with the tide. However, I’m opting for the easy way out here. Bama comes in with the 44th ranked defense in the country – I’m not buying it. That is some juiced ESPN circle jerk if I’ve ever seen one. This defense doesn’t pass the eye test in my humble opinion. Sam Leavitt and Lane Kiffin boast the 9th ranked offense in the country and you know Lane will be emptying the bag to get a win against Alabama. You follow the logic here, LSU sets the pace and I am confident Bama can keep up. Bama’s offense came back to earth the last few weeks after opening the season with 5 straight 45+ point outings. I also think this LSU is a bit of ‘fool’s gold’ statistically speaking as well. They come into the game with the 16th ranked defense in the country but if you dig into it for a second you see they gave up 30+ to any team with a pulse (Kentucky and Ole Miss). I see this one turning into a track meet. 41-38, flip a coin who comes out on top.
OK State -6 at Kansas State (1 unit): This is a must cover for the Cowboys and Drew Mestemaker in my book. They won me a lot of money last year. Drew is going to be the quarterback of the Miami Dolphins in a few short months. Eric Morris and Drew Mestemaker owe me this one after coming up short on the last two. William Tickets also needs this one. I cannot tell you how much money I have lost backing Avery Johnson. Somehow this guy is still in school – I swear I placed my first bet on this guy in 2020. It would be par for the course if I fade him and he makes me pay…. If you’re a hater – there’s your cue… (KState +6). Billy’s Backers, let’s dive in a bit. I think you follow the vine a bit here with two common opponents in the last four weeks. K State lost to Colorado 27-24 and Houston 35-16 (garbage time TD). The Pokes routed Colorado 57-24 and lost on the road to Houston 35-32. OK State is the better team and has the offense to run this one up. Although KState can handle themselves on the ground offensively, I am not trusting Avery Johnson to keep up with the 3rd ranked offense in the country. Cowboys wrangle the wildcats, 44-27.
Kentucky +6.5 at Tennessee (2 units): Will Stein’s led Kentucky Wildcats head to Knoxville to take on the fraudulent Tennessee Volunteers quarterbacked by George Macintyre. Another situation where I have been licking my chops at a chance to fade these Volunteers. Give me the Wildcats +6.5. Let me start here: I am wiping the Bama game from memory on the Tennessee side – really both sides. Weird things happen in the SEC. MacIntyre is dog water. Guy is absolutely ass. Kentucky has the edge (somehow) at QB with Kenny Minchey. All else in my mind is equal. You might say Tennessee has a better defense – alright – but what if I told you Tennessee allows more rush yards per game than Kentucky? Is that something you might be interested in? I expect a low scoring and ground attack oriented game. In these types of games, turnovers are crucial. Minchey has one interception all year where MacIntyre has one a game. Another toss up game where I will be taking the points. Wildcats out run the Volunteers, 24-20.
Week 10 Leans (0.5 units):
BYU +4.5 at Utah: Holy War destined to be a good one. Coin flip, give me the points.
Vandy +3 at Miss State: Any chance to fade the dawgs without Kamario, I will take.
North Texas team total over 41 vs Rice: They may hang 80. Should be able to do absolutely whatever they want offensively.
Duke -4 at NC State: Wolfpack got the emotions out of them last week. News flash boys, coach is still fired. Good Duke team coming to town and Mini Manny Diaz has to showcase himself if he wants any chance at the FSU job.
Yours truly,
Billy Tickets
